4SB 70 A Little History
- Spring 2006- Announcement for CA Senate Bill 70
grants for CTE in three categories one of them
was 7th and 8th grade Career Exploration SCUSD
(k-12) was a partner with Central County
Occupational Center, San Jose Unified, Oak Grove
District, and Next Vista for Learning to start
Middle School Career Exploration Program
5SB 70 A Little History
- Spring 2008 and Winter 2008- SCUSD, Next Vista
for Learning and Central County Occupational
Center joined Santa Clara Adult Education, Ohlone
Community College and Foothill Community College
to focus on ICT pathways and to continue Career
Exploration. Currently on the 2nd round of
funding for these SVICT projects.

- To implement a well rounded program that supports
career exploration for 7th and 8th grade
students. - To expand the understanding of Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) applications in
all industry sectors. - To expand middle school students knowledge of
career options and courses in the high school,
adult education, community college, and ROCP in
the ICT pathway.

9Camp Connecting the Dots
- Incoming 7th and 8th graders
- Full Week 8-1 pm on three days, 2 long days as
well - 70 students and MANY adults
- Transportation, snacks, graduation, camp video,
tshirts, take home project every day all paid
for via the SB70 grant - Cost to student - 5.00
- Registration starts in May
- Partnered with Migrant Education

11Why Career Exploration in Middle School Matters
- The most interesting topic to a teen is
themselves - Having an idea of the field they are both
interested and naturally inclined towards in
middle school gives them time to research and
follow the best path in high school - Builds intrinsic motivation for high school and
post-secondary success - Gives a connection point to parents and
counselors for academic counseling - Its fun!
