3Method
- Three different machines, i.e. BL Millennium,
Alcon Infinity and AMO Sovereign were used for
phacoemulsifications in everyday cataract
surgery. - The 20 patients for each group of nucleus
hardness 2 and 4 and each setting were treated by
mentioned machines with different settings from
October 2006 to February 2007. - Mostly used phacoemulsification technique was
stop and chop for initial dividing and halves
were then cracked into smaller parts. - Description of specific settings for each machine
and specific grades of cataract density follows. - The results were taken from recorded overlay
statistics (BL Millennium and Alcon Infinity) or
from printed statistics (AMO Sovereign) and
compared.

16Handpieces Comparison
- Sovereign and OZil handpieces are lightweight,
handy, agreeable. - Millennium handpiece is slightly greater, but
lightweight and agreeable. - NeoSonics handpiece is big, heavier and vibrates
during phacoemulsification.

23Softwares Comparison
- After my opinion, Millennium CCS or MICS
softwares as so as Infinity and AMO WhiteStar ICE
hyperpulse softwares are able to fully satisfy
requirements of modern phacoemulsification
techniques and gives uncountable number of
variances of different settings to every cataract
surgeon.

27Conclusions
- Millennium phacoemulsification
- Generally it is the fastest procedure, from the
reason of dual linear mode mainly. - In mentioned settings it is very safe procedure.
- With smaller tip channel diameter rises duration
of the procedure in soft cataract surgery. - The duration of hard cataract surgery procedure
is comparable with Stableflow needle soft
cataract procedures. - The duration of Stableflow needle hard cataract
procedures is only slightly higher then classical
and microcoaxial procedures.
28Conclusions
- Infinity phacoemulsification
- Generally it is larger procedure.
- In mentioned settings it is very safe procedure.
- OZil accelerates phacoemulsification and makes it
easier. - The duration of hard cataract surgery procedures
is much longer then soft ones. - Effective phacotimes are short.
29Conclusions
- Sovereign phacoemulsification
- In mentioned settings it is very safe procedure.
- Stability of anterior chamber during
phacoemulsification is excellent. - The duration of hard cataract surgery procedures
is markedly higher then soft ones. - Effective phacotimes are comparable with
Millennium ones.
30Conclusions
- It is possible to compare phacoemulsification
regimes with the same parameters and settings
only. - The settings of all three machines discussed
arent fully equivalent but they were set upped
from the point of view of requirements of one
super high volume phacosurgeon. - The results verify advancements of
phacoinstruments, phacohardwares as so as
phacosoftwares which facilitates modern
microphacosurgery.
