Title: EEE Obsolescence (ISS, SSP, OSP) Task 04-011

EEE Obsolescence (ISS, SSP, OSP)Task 04-011
Description
Benefits
EEE Obsolescence (ISS, SSP, OSP)
  • BACKGROUND
  • Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material
Shortages (DMSMS) is defined as the loss, or
impending loss, of manufacturers or suppliers of
items or the shortages of raw materials. It is
possible for DMSMS to occur at any phase of the
    Program/Projectfrom design and development
through post-production. DMSMS has the potential
to critically impact space vehicle supportability
and life cycle. The majority of DMSMS has
occurred in the electronics areas (microcircuits)
but can affect all EEE parts areas including
    modules, subsystems or systems.
  • TASKS
  • Identify and collect various data sources for EEE
obsolescence for ISS and SSP programs.
  • Identify and document available tools and
    techniques for predicting obsolescence
    engineering.
  • Research, compare, and benchmark various
    approaches to EEE parts obsolescence.
  • Research and document data on decapsulate and
repackaging companies and approaches as well as
their procedures to maintain product reliability
    quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of predictive tools and methodologies
comparison will aid EEE parts obsolescence
    evaluation for NASA projects.
  • Collaboration with other government centers such
as DOD on methods to address obsolescence and
    obsolescence management (Defense industry is
    already researching these areas).
  • Leads to the development of decision models and
    parts obsolescence management roadmap.
  • Improvement of maintenance, reliability schedule
    costs, and sustaining engineering.

Deliverables
  • Potential EEE parts obsolescence candidates
database from ISS, SSP, and OSP.
  • Report of predictive tools availability.and
    repackaging companies.
  • Report of long term storage effects of electronic
    microcircuits.
