Bacterial Scours

• Several types- Colibacillosis (e. coli),
  Enterotoxcemia (clostridium perfringens),
  Salmonella cholerasuis infection, and Swine
  dysentery
• With all types of scours, both bacterial and
  viral, the symptoms are the same
• Pigs become unthrifty and the passage of soft or
  watery feces is seen, sometimes with flecks of
  blood and mucous

Bacterial Scours

• Pigs sometimes exhibit high temperatures
• Therapeutic use of antibacterials are useful
  against bacterial scours if started early enough.
  The main thing to remember is to not let the
  animal become dehydrated.
• Types of scours have been shown to be drug
  resistant so one should choose a drug that the
  organism is susceptible to
• Drugs that are commonly used Bacitracin,
  carbadox, lincomycin, nitroimidazoles, tiamulin,
  and virginiamycin
