The Problem

• Wisconsin 4-H Member in sheep project
• Flock Purebred Suffolk Sheep
• 20 ewes
• 2 rams
• Intends to breed for fall lambing
• Goal Wants ram lambs to be worth more when sold
  in summer (assumption)
• His protocol
• Eazi-Breed sheep CIDR
• PG600
• Only available on weekends

Reproductive State of Sheep

• Seasonal breeders
• Polyestrus
• Typically, ewes are bred in the fall and lamb in
  the spring
• For fall lambing, other breeding protocols must
  be in place.
• Gestation 145 days

Drug Treatment

• EAZI-BREED CIDR for sheep goats
• Progesterone
• Intravaginal administration (plunger)
• P.G. 600
• eCG HCG
• 2.5-5 cc doses dependent on size, age fertility
  of female
• Higher dose could result in triplets or quads

Treatment Protocol

• Insert CIDR
• Leave CIDR in place 12-14 days
• Remove CIDR
• Administer P.G. 600
• 54 hours after removed, she will be ready to
  breed

Other Recommendations

• Labor needs to implement the protocol
• Insert CIDR on Saturday or Sunday (2 weeks
  before)
• Remove on Friday morning or afternoon
• Breed on Sunday
