Life Cycle Of A Snail
2
STAGE 1
  • Snails are hermaphrodites, which means they have
both male and female parts. Snails mate in warm,
humid areas. To mate they come together and
exchange slime, then move about and come together
again and entwine. Sperm is exchanged when the
sexual organs are in direct contact, they
    fertilize each others eggs.

3
STAGE 2
  • Snails lay 50-100 eggs. These eggs are laid in
topsoil, under leaves,at the roots of plants or
at the base of a tree.

4
STAGE 3
  • The baby snails hatch in 15-30 days and are tiny
    replicas of their parents.

5
STAGE 4
  • Snails are nocturnal, which means they sleep
during the day and wake at night to eat. They eat
mostly plants but do eat creatures smaller then
themselves. Snails leave a slime trail of silver
    behind them.

6
STAGE 5
  • Snails hibernate in winter. They hibernate in
compost, soft soil or heaps of wood. The food they
have consumed during summer, spring and autumn
    sustain them through winter.

7
STAGE 6
  • They grow to adult size in about 3-4 years.Their
shell colouring and nocturnal habits all help it
to hide and protect its self from predators
such as the rat, mole, hedgehog and birds.
