Providence may be considered as immediate and
mediate.

• God sometimes works without means.
• He made the earth fruitful
• He supported the body of Moses in the mount
• He caused the waters to part in the Red Sea

• God sometimes uses natural means to accomplish
  His purposes.
• He gives victory to small armies over large
• He sustains men by food
• He makes the earth fruitful by sending rain

Providence may be considered both as ordinary and
extraordinary.

• Ordinary providence is seen in the laws
  established by God (laws of gravity, laws of the
  harvest, laws of animal instinct, etc.)
• Extraordinary providence is seen when God goes
  out of His common way and performs miraculous
  operations.

Providence may be considered as universal and
singular.

• Universal or general providence concerns God's
  upholding act preserving all things that are
  created

• Singular providence is concerned with every
  individual, and especially with rational
  creatures and their actions
  Tumingin kayo sa sangkalangitan, sino
  ba ang lumikha ng mga bituin, sino ba ang sa
  kanila'y nagpapakilos at isa-isang tumatawag sa
  kanilang pangalan? Dahil sa kanyang
  kapangyarihan, isa ma'y wala siyang nakaligtaan.

How should we, as the people of God, respond to
God's special providence to us?

• Be still, quiet, and easy."Be still, and know
  that I am God," Psalm 4610
• This does not mean stupidity, insensibility, or
  inactivity

• We should hold our peace, and be silent. Aaron,
  after losing his two sons "held his peace,"
  Leviticus 102.
• We should constantly make reference to the will
  of God. "If the Lord will, we shall live and do
  this and that," James 415. "It is the Lord, let
  Him do what seemeth to Him good," 1 Samuel 318.
