Inferior vena cava
  • Largest vein in the body.
  • Extends from the union of the common iliac veins
    to the right of L5 and travels cephalad along the
    right aspect of the spine.
  • Passes through the posterior surface of the liver
    goes to the caval hiatus of the diaphragm.

INFERIOR VENA CAVA
  • Normally contracts on exhalation and expands on
    inhalation or the valsalva maneuver.
  • Easily compressible vein.
  • Has no valves.
  • Normal size diameter islt 3.7 cm.
