Rationale

• Need for Clusters?
• Some structures cannot be calculated on PC
• 3D FDTD calculation of many photonic structures
  takes days or even weeks
• Simplifications are not always good enough
• Need for collaboration?
• Clusters are expensive
• Hardware
• Documentation knowledge of software and OS
• Maintenance
• Upgrading
• Maintenance of hard- and software is time
  consuming
• Clusters are designed to handle task
  simultaneously

• Why ePIXnet platform?
• Software clusters are available ?!
• But there was no manpower ?.
