PQP Definitions

• Q What is Voltage SWELL?
• A The event when the RMS voltage exceeds the
  nominal voltage by 10 to 80 for 0.5 cycle to 1
  minute.
• Q What is Voltage DIP?
• A The RMS voltage is below the nominal voltage by
  10 to 90 for 0.5 cycle to 1 minute. Known also
  as SAG.
• Q What is Voltage FLICKER?
• A Random or repetitive variations in the RMS
  voltage between 90 110 of nominal.
• The impression of unsteadiness of visual
  sensation induced by a light stimulus on the
  human eye.

Q What is Voltage SPIKES? A Abrupt, very brief
increase in voltage caused by large inductive
loads being turned off. Known also as IMPULSES
and SURGES. Q What is UNDER VOLTAGE? A Occurs
when the nominal voltage drops below 90 for more
than 1 minute. Q What is OVER VOLTAGE? A Occurs
when the nominal voltage rises above 110 for
more than 1 minute. Q What is HARMONICS? A Harmon
ics are currents or voltages with frequencies
that are integer multiples of the fundamental
power frequency being 50 or 60Hz (50Hz for
European power and 60Hz for American power).
