1.1 To serve as a membership umbrella body for
all the Racial Equality Councils (RECs), and
other organisations with interest in racial
equality, particularly those organisations that
do Race Complainant Aid Work, in the South West.
And where the need arises to extend this
membership to other equality areas. 1.2 To
promote racial equality in the South West by
giving due regard to the need to eliminate
racial, and all other forms of discrimination,
promote equality of opportunity and good
relations between people of different racial
groups and other equality backgrounds. 1.3 To
Support RECs in the South West in their efforts
to facilitate the building and maintaining of
community cohesion and good relationship between
people of different racial groups and backgrounds
in the South West.

1.4 To work with others, including statutory,
voluntary and business sector partners and
organisations to ensure equality and equality of
opportunity in their processes and in their
efforts to eliminate racial and all other forms
of discrimination in the South West. 1.5 To
represent all the RECs, and other equality
interests in the South West, at partnership
arrangements, to provide a strong voice for its
members and to lead on strategic work for racial
equality and all other areas of equality in the
South West. 1.6 To work with others to identify
and support BME communities so that the
communities are empowered to fully participate in
the life of the areas where they live, work or
play. 1.7 To ensure that all RECs in the South
West provide a consistently good quality service
throughout the South West and to provide a
bridging service in any REC area that need such a
service.
