ERA-NET

• An ERA-NET is the coordination of national or
  regional research programmes
• Networking of research activities carried out at
  a national or regional level
• Opening up of national or regional research

• A bottom up approach is used so research can be
  carried out in any field
• Activities include
• Exchange of information and best practice
• Strategic activities
• Implementation of joint activities
• Joint research programme

ERA-NET

• Participants are organisations responsible for
  financing or managing research activities e.g.
  public bodies
• At the end of the funding period, the network
  needs to be self financing
• A final study on the networks future will be
  carried out with 3 options
• Stop the coordination
• Continue the coordination

• The ultimate outcome of an ERA-Net project is the
  complete merger of national or regional research
  funding programmes into 1 European programme
• Needs co-decision by the European Parliament and
  Council
• EC contribute to the funding budget as a share
  holder
