WHY an IP?Background concerning current situation
  • European social policy pay great attention to
    issues on the social inclusion.
  • Equal Opportunities for People with
    Disabilities a European Action plan, 2003,
    states that The EU sees disability as social
    construct. The EU social model of disability
    stresses the environment barriers in society
    which prevent the full participation of people
    with disabilities (and marginal groups of people)
    in society. These barriers must be removed
  • The report on social inclusion points out that,
    in 2001, more than 55 million people were still
    facing the risk of poverty, i.e. 15 of the
    European population. The groups most at risk were
    the unemployed, single parents, elderly people
    living alone and families with a large number of
    children.

Background concerning OT education
  • WEAKNESSES
  • Actually, society needs professionals in social
    care system, but OT study programme prepare
    students for work in health care system
  • The existing OT study programme does not give
    opportunities for students to achieve
    professional competencies and skills
  • The teachers have not enough resources to
    deliver uptodate knowledge in OT field

  • The knowledge and skills develop simultaneously
    through all the study process
  • The study programme is built up based on human
    life span development including development of
    human occupation during the life

AIM of IP
  • Implement OT in social care
  • Make this project as a pilot for the student
    centered learning,
  • also to develop the intensive course as good
    practice for the tuning methodology
  • Indicators of outcome
  • Intensive course (including the students and
    teachers handbooks)
  • 30 students gain 5 ECTS

  • Feedback from society (statistical figures about
    project target group from population)
