Purposes of XMDR Prototype for ISO/IEC 11179
Registry Standard

• Extend semantics management capabilities
• Explore uses of terminologies and ontologies
• Systematize representation of relationships
• Adapt test emerging semantic technologies
• Help resolve registration harmonization issues
  for different metadata standards
• Propose revisions to 11179 Parts 2 3 (Ver. 3)
• Show how proposed revisions to metadata registry
  standards can be implemented
• Demonstrate Reference Implementation (RI)

Issues raised to date for Part 3

• Relationships
• Make relationship types administered items
• Make relationships directed
• Add optional relationship-type meta-attribute for
  relationships
• Use (meta-)value domains to manage
  relationship-types
• new general recursive structure (like
  classified item) for complex hierarchical
  objects e.g., xml files
• Other attributes needed cardinality for both
  ends, direction, descriptive cardinality
• Relationships for CSI (classification scheme
  items) hierarchy level, sequence order
• Concepts and Contexts
• Identify types of correspondences between
  concepts
• Need Context for definitions (as well as name) in
  Part 3
• Composite concepts with order (NCI)

• Rename "Classification Scheme" to "Concept
  System" (per TC 37 ISO 1087)
  suggestion make it Registry Semantics
  (classification used by statisticians)
• Link "meanings" in Classification Scheme
  to Conceptual Domains
