Goals of Disability Support Service
  • To enable students with Disabilities achieve
    their educational and vocational goals in an
    inclusive learning environment

    areas of college life

    persons with disabilities throughout college and

The Graduates
  • These students achieve examination results on a
    par with their peers and are generally very high
    achievers
  • 85 of students who are deaf/hard of hearing go
    on to postgraduate study after their primary
    degree
  • 83 of students who graduated in the last 2 years
    are known to be working. Fields of employment
    include primary school teachers, computing and
    owning their own business.

Challenges for the Future
  • Increase the participation of students who are
    Deaf/Hard of Hearing in UCC by
  • Liaison with primary and Second Level Education
  • Liaison with Support Teachers for Deaf
  • Learn from best practice worldwide

What can you do?
  • Face your class at all times where possible
  • Dont put your hands in front of your face or
    have any objects i.e. a pen in your mouth
    obstructing it.
  • Repeat any questions asked by class members back
    before answering the question
