  • SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES FOR SUCCESSFUL INTERACTION

2
I. INTRODUCTION AND BASIC PRINCIPLES
3
As always
  • We begin the meeting with a general orientation
  • The psychologist Mr. Taylor, the resource
specialist, Judy Wynn, and I have all evaluated
Josie. During this meeting, we will share the
results of our testing with you and our
recommendations for the type of support we can
    provide here at school.

I like to begin with a positive statement

If people are really anxious and tense

  • I adminstered the CELF-4 to Tony. He averaged in
the 2nd percentile rank for all subtests, with
the exception of Semantic Relationships. This
subtest, where Tony scored in the 8th percentile
rank, examines a childs ability to think
logically and create semantic networks that
extend to 3 or more categories. The subtest that
presented the most difficulty was the Morphology
subtest, which examined Tonys direct knowledge
    of comparative, superlative, and derivational
    morphemes.

  • I hear that you believe there is nothing wrong
with Susanna. As we discussed, I believe that she
has a language-learning disability and needs
intervention. But I respect where you are coming
from. If you decide that you might like to chat
about this in the future, here is my cardfeel
    free to call or email.

Everyone wants to feel important

Small Group Activity
  • Share with 1-2 classmates a time when someone
delivered bad news to you. How did you react? Did
the person deliver the bad news appropriately, or
were they insensitive? What did they do or say
that made you feel that they were appropriate or
    insensitive and uncaring?
