Title: Crime Scene Investigators
1Crime Scene Investigators
2The body !
- The unconscious body of your caretaker was found
earlier this morning. Fortunately he is feeling a
lot better now and has been checked by the
doctor. - However, a very expensive laptop is missing from
your classroom. - Your job is to find out who committed this
terrible crime. You must look for evidence and
decide how best to use it.
3A mysterious white powder
- Well done detective. But what could this material
be? How might it help you find out who the
criminal is?
4The pad!
- Congratulations, you have found the pad. What you
now need to figure out is how this could possibly
help to solve the crime.
5The soil!
There is a sprinkling of soil near to where the
caretaker was found. What could you possibly do
to the soil in order to find out where it came
from?
6The note!
The note lay crumpled up by where the caretaker
had fallen. It has obviously been written in ink,
but can you match this ink to one of the pens
that has been found around the school?
7Fibres!
Once again, your amazing observational skills
have located a key piece of evidence. You have
also been given fabrics from lots of different
types of clothing. Which of these fabrics has
fibres most similar to those you have found?
8Blood!
Several drops of blood have been found near to
the body. No cuts were found on the caretaker, so
it must be assumed that the blood belongs to the
criminal. What information might this give you
about the criminal and what he/ she was doing at
the time of the break in?
9Luke-warm tea!
The caretaker's cup of tea was still on the desk
next to where he had fallen. You measure the
temperature of the tea and find out that it is 31
degrees Celsius. How will this help to inform
your investigation?
10Dents in the window frame
Another stunning discovery! It would seem that
some dents have been made on your window frame.
Once again, this should be evidence for a bright
detective like you!
Health and safety Why do you need to be
especially careful with this part of the
investigation?
11Footprints
Footprints outside the classroom window!
Unfortunately these will not last forever. What
will be the best way of gathering this evidence
so that it can later be shown in court? How will
it help to uncover the criminal?
12Considering the evidence
- You are now to presented with the following
information - Height of each of the adults in the school
- Times when adults were seen around your
classroom. - The type and size of shoes worn by each of the
adults. - The items that were found on each of the adults.
- A photo of each of the adults showing the
clothes that they were wearing at the time.
Your job is to create a case. You must put
together all your scientific evidence in order to
present a prosecution in court.
