2Why an MPhil?
- Request from AKIDA for Masters degree, following
previous MEd programme. - MEd required two visits to UK.
- Teaching should be a Research Based Profession.
- Involving teachers in research leads to school
improvement.
3Research and The School of Education
- A particular strength of the School of Education
is the research it carries out, giving the School
a national and international reputation as a
centre of excellence. - The Schools national and international standing
as a centre of excellence for research in
education was recognised in the 2001 Research
Assessment Exercise with a grade 5 rating. - Our strategy towards research and research
degrees is centred upon three key principles - Research should seek to combine scholarly and
empirical work on fundamental issues with a
concern for development work linked to practice. - Research should recognise the importance of
professional practice. - Research is often a multidisciplinary activity
and strong links across specialisms must be
encouraged and supported. - This interdependence of research with development
and professional practice means that we
particularly welcome and emphasise the
contribution of research students to our work
