What is SafeWeb?
  • Hotline agency.
  • Implemented by the EU funded SaferNet project.
  • Partially funded by the Safer Internet EU
    programme.
  • Supported by the Department of Computer Science
    of the University of Cyprus and the Institute of
    Computer Science of the Foundation for Research
    and Technology (FORTH).

  • One of the four departments of the School of Pure
    and Applied Sciences

  • 3 teaching-stuff members
  • Over 40 full-time researchers
  • Runs a large number of EU-funded research
    programs.
  • Has established communication channels with most
    local authorities and major industrial members.
  • Highly reputable among local society.

The SAFERNET project - The partnersFORTH - ICS
  • One of the seven institutes of FORTH the
    largest Greek State RD Center.
  • Personnel
  • 25 Ph.D.s (75 University faculty)
  • 70 Engineers
  • Over 50 researchers
  • Participated in numerous EU-funded research
    programs.
  • Was the technology expert in the NetWatch project
    that resulted in the creation of the SafeLine
    the Greek hotline service.

Targets (I)
  • To serve as a point of reference for those who
    wish to protect themselves and their families
    from content that is illegal, harmful or
    offensive.
  • To provide an efficient and easy to use reporting
    channel.
  • To encourage Internet users to report illegal
    content.
  • To serve as the intermediate layer between
    Internet users and policing agencies.
  • To promote the visibility of the service among
    Internet users in general and the most affected
    groups of people in particular.

Targets (II)
  • To contribute in establishing an Internet safety
    task force among all local authorities, agencies
    and organization as well as members of the
    industry that are in any way concerned with law
    enforcement, Internet safety and public welfare
    in general.
  • To contribute to and cooperate with European and
    international hotline networks.
  • To cooperate with local and international
    Internet Safety awareness raising nodes and
    networks.
  • To issue and disseminate reports on key service
    activities, as well as statistics on submitted
    reports and service usage.
