Scope of the Status P standard 

• Should cover in principle all classes of mail
• letter post
• parcel post
• EMS
• Focus on reporting item level information on
  shipments containing merchandise
• Include both the Customs declaration and the
  response to this declaration

Proposed next steps

• One more round of comments from WCO with the aim
  of creating a consistent workable message
  specification (deadline was end February 2000)
• Present to UPUs Coding and Messaging Group for
  comments
• Then freeze the draft in order to allow pilot
  implementations
• Status 0 proposal to be prepared
• Continue coordination with WCO, possibly
  resulting in a MoU
