  not even growing the church
• What it is to see peoples lives changed
  forever. Good news.

How we love other people is how we love God.
One way of doing this is power evangelism. ?

Mark 1046-52 (NIV)

• Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight
•  46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his
  disciples, together with a large crowd, were
  leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that
  is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the
  roadside begging.
• 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,
  he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have
  mercy on me!" 
• 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but
  he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have
  mercy on me!"

• 49Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they
  called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet!
  He's calling you." 
• 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his
  feet and came to Jesus.  
• 51 "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus
  asked him.       The blind man said, "Rabbi, I
  want to see."
•  52 "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed
  you." Immediately he received his sight and
  followed Jesus along the road.

Introducing the Holy Spirit into someones life
promotes a reaction sometimes with dramatic
unexpected results

Taking a look at Bartimaeus

• v51 a blind man, Bartimaeus , was sitting by
  the roadside begging.
• Not an uncommon sight
• Long term ill dispossessed
• Being annoying told to shut up!
• Needing help
• Needing Jesus

Taking a look at Jesus

• What does Jesus do?
• Stops notices him takes him seriously (v49)
• Then asks a direct question that demands an
  answer
• 51 "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus
  asked him. 
• Immediately (v51)

Taking a look at our response

• Jesus is our model so what do we learn from
  this?
• Power Evangelism in action!
• Jesus prays for healing
• He brings physical spiritual sight (v52)
• The mans life is changed

How to walk on water
Copying Jesus is like walking on
water Scientific explanations surface
tension/weight But we are called to transcend
the laws of nature How to pray Where is the
Father working? What does the person want Jesus
to do for them? Ask the spirit to come Listen to
God physical spiritual

Our question at this point
 What if they dont get healed? This fear is what
tends to stop us praying. How do we push through
that and pray anyway? Remember it is Jesus
ministry not ours The responsibility is his we
are just obedient The kingdom is now and not
yet Healing may not be instant but
gradual Healing may not be visible but heart
stuff Many feel the peace of God HIM We commit
to keeping on There is nothing to lose!

Transformation

• Never underestimate the power of Jesus direct
  intervention into someones life.
• Bartimaeus life was changed forever
• He could see
• He was following Jesus
• Its what Jesus longs to do
• A demonstration of the spirits power brings
  people to faith in Jesus
• Bible stuffed full of examples like this

Do We Believe in Miracles?

• HCD poll 2004, USA, of 1100 doctors
• 74 believed miracles occurred in the past
• 73 believe they can still occur today
• Harris Poll 2007, USA, 2500 adults
• 82 believe in God
• 79 believe in miracles
• So we are not working on barren ground.
