4Definition
An informal caregiver provides needed care on a
long term basis to a care recipient, who is most
often a relative, friend, or neighbor. This
does not include caregivers who provide care on
a voluntary basis through an organization (e.g.,
church) or those who provide care as a career.
Long-term care often involves assisting the care
receiver with personal hygiene, getting dressed,
using the bathroom or household tasks such a
preparing meals. It does not include recovery
from an injury after which the recipient no
longer needs care.
Limited to those at least 60 years of age
