Urban Heat "Islands"

• Urban heat "islands" can be observed with the
  channel IR3.9 under clear sky conditions,
  especially during the night-time hours
• Channel IR3.9 has a strong response to sub-pixel
  land-surface temperature variations in urban
  areas (see also fire detection)
• Higher temperature difference between city and
  surroundings measured at night at 3.9 ?m than at
  10.8 ?m
