Selecting Chart Types

• Selecting a Chart type
• Bar
• Comparison of 2 to about 6 categories
• Can show percentage sub categories within a
  category
• Pie
• Comparison of the fraction within one category
• Line
• Show a trend across categories
• X-Y
• Show a relationship between two variables
• Plots one variable against one or more variables

Critical Elements

• Title
• Each axis must be labeled with
• Title or variable name
• Units (normally in parenthesis)
• Scale with appropriate divisions must be shown
• Reference
• Must have proper reference to the data source

Creating a Bar Chart

• Select labels and data
• Use the menu to insert the chart
• INSERT/CHART
• Select COLUMN, Pick subtype, then Nextgt
• If preview looks OK then Nextgt
• Add Title and Axis Labels and Check other Options
  Nextgt
• Select Placement Finishgt
• Select objects in the chart for further
  formatting
• Line colors/fills/font types/etc.
• Objects may be moved or deleted
• Text may be added by simply typing into the edit
  bar

• Use the menu to insert the chart
• INSERT/CHART
• Select PIE, Pick subtype, then Nextgt
• If preview looks OK then Nextgt
• Add Title and Check other Options Nextgt
• Select Placement Finishgt
