Getting Started
  • Do some research.
  • Choose a work of art by a master artist that you
    would like to reproduce. Make sure you can find
    information about this artist.
  • Make sure that you admire the artist and the
    piece because you are going to get very involved
    with both.
  • Print a copy of the artwork via internet or the
    scanner. Image size should be 5x7 or larger.

Artist Report
  • 3 week project
  • Should be the same artist you choose for the
    design chart and grid drawing.
  • 150 words minimum
  • Typed or hand written legibly
  • Artist biography
  • Description of the type of work created
  • Discuss the elements and principles of design
    used
  • Report must be written in your own words
  • Do not go on the Internet and copy, paste and
    submit!
  • Grade will be based on content.

Naturalistic Design (Grid Drawing Reproduction)
  • You will then create a series of work based on
    the piece you have selected.
  • The first in the series is Naturalistic design.
  • Create a reproduction as close as possible to the
    original using a grid system to draw the main
    contours of the work and then color using colored
    pencils.

Conventional or Stylized Design
  • The second in the series is conventional or
    stylized design. You will recreate a piece in a
    simplified form but still keep it recognizable
    using the techniques in collage.
  • Collage is French meaning to cut and paste.

Abstract Design
  • The third in the series is Abstract design.
    Abstract art is 20th century art containing
    shapes that simplify shapes of real objects to
    emphasize form instead of subject matter. You
    should plan on sketching a minimum of 4 thumbnail
    sketches in developing your composition. Your
    abstract art will be created using either pastels
    or oil pastels on colored construction paper.
