One way for students to easily access a template
is to save it with the Activity Wizard. SAVING
WITH THE ACTIVITY WIZARD ONLY SAVES IT ON 1
COMPUTER.
Create your template. When you are ready to save
go to the Teacher menu and select Save with
Activity Wizard.
The Activity Wizard will walk you through saving
the default settings for your template.

To limit students access to other Symbol
Libraries, select Selected Libraries. Choose the
library from the list. Then Press Select. Repeat
as necessary. Lastly, select Next.

Select the default symbol color and other
formatting choices. Then press Next.
Select the default font formatting. Then, select
Next.

Select the Writing View Defaults. Then, select
Next.
Decide on a name and description for the
activity. Select a category to group the
template with. Then, select Save Activity.

To find your activity, select the category in
which you grouped your template.

When clicking once on the activity the
description will be read. Select OK to open the
activity.
Because I only choose 1 Symbol Library the user
cannot arrow through the other Symbol Libraries.
NOTE Saving using the Activity Wizard does not
distribute the template to all the computers in a
school that have Kidspiration.

Saving a template so that all students can access
it
Save and Save Often From the File menu and
select Save
A window will open that will allow you to name
your file and select a location (either your
desktop or Documents folder) to save it. Then
select Save.

Next, open the Storage Icon on your desktop by
double clicking on its icon. Double click on
the Teachers folder to open.

Next, open the Teacher folder on the Dock by
double clicking on its icon. Locate your name.

Now open your Documents folder by double clicking
on its icon on the dock (if you saved your
template in your Documents folder). Arrange the
two folders so that your can see both. Drag your
template into your Hand-out folder.

When students log in they have a Teachers folder
on their dock. Have the students double click on
your template to open it.
  • When students login with their individual user
    names and passwords they will be able to
  • Open the Teacher folder
  • Locate your Teacher Hand-out folder
  • Open the template
  • Save the file in their documents folder
  • (They cannot save a file to the Teacher folder or
    delete a file.)

Students Saving and Handing-in
When students open the template have the students
rename the file immediately by going to the File
menu and selecting Save. They will be asked to
name the file and select a location (documents
folder).
Naming Conventions Start the new name with the
name of the template. Then add an individual
student identifier. For example The original
file name fractions.kid could be
fractions3Bje.kid (3 3rd grade B Teacher Name
je Jennifer Elam) Also -Use no spaces and no
uppercase letters -Shorter is better when naming
files Files will be sorted in the folder by
template name, not by student name.

Students Saving and Handing-in
Handing-in Completed Templates Students should
open their Documents folder by double clicking on
its icon on the dock. Then open the Teacher
folder by double clicking on its icon on the
dock. Then students should arrange the two
folders so that they can see both. Then they can
drag their file into your Hand-in folder. A
warning window will tell the students they cannot
view the contents fo the folder.
Students cannot overwrite another students work
with a file of the same name. When you are
logged in as a teacher you will be able to view
the contents of the Hand-in folder.

Assignment If you are a school based teacher
When logged in with your user name and password,
place one of your previous class assignments in
your hand-out folder. Log in with a student
login (username 07s001 password 07s001 ).
Find the file. Open it. Save it to the
students desktop. Drag it to your hand-in
folder. Log in as yourself. Locate the new file
in your hand-in folder. Begin planning a
lesson that you can carry out with a group of
students. Select a content area objective as
well as an educational technology objective.
Begin to create a template that will help enhance
students learning.
