eligible for funding under the IDB-STATCAP, but
member countries with least developed statistical
capacity (especially LDMCs) will have priority
  • All funding provided under IDB-STATCAP shall be
in the form of grants and every effort shall be
made to cover as many countries and regions as
    possible

9
Policies continue
  • Proposals for projects/programs funding or
co-funding may originate from different sources,
    including statistical agencies of member
    countries, regional and international
    institutions, and development partners
  • All proposals submitted will be reviewed on a
    first-come, first-served basis, provided all
requirements are met at the time of submission

Progress of Implementation of IDB-STATCAP
  • Under the IDB-STATCAP program, three member
    countries (Guinea-Bissau, Morocco and Djibouti)
received a cumulative amount of US 400,000 in
    2008
  • Another three member countries (Mauritania,
Comoros and Guinea) benefited from the
    IDB-STATCAP scholarship program in 2008/2009
    academic year
  • Development of Intra-Investment database of OIC
member countries (with ITAP and UNCTAD)

Progress of Implementation
continue
  • Partnership with regional statistical
    institutions
  • SESRIC, a training course on National Accounts
    in Turkey (13 Asian countries)
  • AIRTS, a training course on Analysis of Census
Micro-Data using REDATAM System (15 Arab
    countries attended)
  • Partnership with development partners
  • AfDB, agreement is being reached for co-financing
of statistical activities of common MCs
  • DFID (UK), agreement is underway to manage a fund
for SCB for MCs from MENA region

12
Way Forward
  • Plan to undertake Statistical Diagnostic Studies
in MCs with inadequate statistical capacities
  • Outcome of the studies will help IDB to identify
priority areas for statistical capacity projects.
  • Plan to scale up synergy with other development
partners to share best practices and draw
lessons from their experience in financing SCB
  • We welcome suggestions and comments, by email to
