INTRODUCTION
Myrrh is one of the oldest known medical plants
and was widely used by ancient Egyptians for
medical purposes as well as mummification. In
vitro effect of any drug can be monitored by
measuring its ability of contracting the worm
muscles, which can be measured by special
device. Moreover, the ultra-structure of
the worm after the drug administration in vitro
may clarify the procedure of killing these worms.

AIM OF THE WORK
This study aims to investigate the actual effect
of Mirazid on S .mansoni worms by detecting its
In vitro effect.

MATERIAL AND METHOD
This study was conducted on 3 groups of
white albino mice (5 mice in each group). The 3
groups were infected by 100 cercariae for each
mouse by tail immersion method. The 3rd
group served as a control group. Seven weeks
post-infection the mice were sacrificed,
perfused and worms collected in RPMI-1640.

Muscle tension of worms of the first group of
mice was assayed in response to Mirazid in rising
concentration 100, 200, 300 and 400 nM and
percentage of shortening was calculated.
The worms collected from the second group of mice
were scanned by electron microscope. The worms
were exposed each to 10 ul of Mirazid in
concentration of 10-6 and collected after 10, 20
and 30 minutes of exposure.

CONCLUSION
It is concluded that Mirazid has a powerful
effect on the schistosome worms evaluated by
its ability of causing worm shortening and
severe disruption of the worm surface
monitored by electron microscope.
