What Is PathFinder

• PathFinder is a software tool that models the
  transport network and the trips made on it
• Area-wide transport network analysis
• Current and future travel patterns by different
  modes
• Future road capacity requirements
• Public transport patronage
• Accessibility analysis / transport disadvantage
• Cost-benefit analysis of transport schemes
• Environmental impacts (emissions, carbon
  footprint)
• PathFinder also models down to the level of
  individual intersections and coordinated signal
  systems.

Development of PathFinder

• Under development in authors spare time since
  2004.
• Limitations with commercial transport modelling
  and analysis software
• Too expensive
• Technical limitations (tolling strategies, risk
  analysis, cost-benefit analysis, variable
  demand/elastic assignment)
• Limited junction modelling meso-scopic
  capabilities
• Accelerated development by pittsherry since
  April 2009.
