Senario
Scenario 1  A timed online exam with tight
controls to make it more difficult to
cheat.Either you import your publishers test
bank or you create a 50 question test that you
want your online class to take. The instructions
you would provide are as follows  Students, the
exam is a 60 minute exam containing 50 questions.
  You can access it via the Bb Assignment section
of your class, between 3pm and 5pm on Tuesday
xx/xx/2008.   Once logged into the test, the
system will only allow you to take the exam only
once and will lock you out of using your PC for
any other purpose - hence no printing/emailing.
 If you log out or exit the exam, you can not log
back in to continue. You can access the exam
through blackboard. The new lockdown browser will
require you to enter the password listed under
course documents.

What is Respondus?

• 1. Test manager Is a powerful tool for creating
  and managing exams that can be printed to paper
  or published directly to Blackboard, WebCT, and
  other e-learning systems
• 2. Lockdown browser A browser used to lock down
  the test environment used by students to access
  and complete a test

What can Respondus test manager do?

• Create exams/surveys
• Import exams from publishers test banks, MSword,
  .txt files, .rtf files
• Embed graphics, audio video files
• Insert mathematical tables symbols
• Create test banks comprehensive tests imported
  from multiple files

How to download Respondus test manager.

• For instructors only
• Go to http//www.clt.astate.edu/home/respondus.
  asp and download the test manager.
• Note Students are required to download Lockdown
  browser

What does Respondus test manager look like?
Respondus test manager has four tabs in the
Start menu. Each of these tabs gives us access
to different options. The Exam Wizard, is a
short cut to creating tests .

Why do we need Respondus?

• To help streamline testing
• To simplify the test making process
• To prevent cheating with Respondus Lockdown
  browser

What is Respondus Lockdown browser?

• A custom browser that locks down the test
  environment used by students to access and
  complete a test (for students only)

What is the difference btw. Respondus test
manager and Respondus lockdown browser
Respondus 3.5, is a program that serves as a test
manager enabling us to create test banks. While,
Respondus Lockdown browser is the browser which
is used by the student to take the test created
with the Respondus 3.5 test manager.

How does Respondus Lockdown Browser Prevent
Cheating?

• It prevents students from
• Looking at more than one question at a time
• Going back on the browser
• Caching pages in history
• It disables print screen and screen capture
• Copying and pasting
• As a result, the only options are back, forward,
  refresh and stop

Respondus and Blackboard 8
Respondus and Blackboard 6/8 are
compatible Respondus allows you to import tests
into Blackboard 8. The student can take the test
by going to Respondus lockdown browser, entering
his username and password, accessing his course,
putting in the password and the test is in
lockdown mode.
