Title: Garland Volleyball Association

1
Garland Volleyball Association
  • Scorekeeper Training
  • 6th Grade Competitive, 7th Grade Recreational,
  • 7th Grade Competitive, 8th Grade Competitive
  • (9th-12th Grades in Summer Leagues)

2
  • This is what your score sheet will look like.
  • Take a minute to get familiar with it.

3
This is what a completed score sheet looks like.
Take a minute to review and then well get
started.
4
  • Write the date at the top of the form (anywhere)
  • Fill in both team names according to which side
of the court they are playing on to make it
    easier for you.
  • Indicate which team is serving first by writing
1st Serve next to that teams name.
  • Enter line-up provided to you by each Coach.

5
  • The 1st server, player 10, for the Sweethearts
serves and earns a point. You write the number 1
in the first square next to that players number.
  • Player 10 (still the same server) serves again
and earns another point. You write the number 2
in the second square next to that players
    number.
  • Player 10 serves again and does NOT earn a point
for her team. You put a dash in the box next to
the number 2 and you then write the number 1 with
a circle around it next to the 1st server of
team SWAT, player 6. Why not player 8, the
first player listed, you may wonder? The SWAT
team rotates prior to their first serve this is
something that is not done in the earlier grade
    levels.
  • The number 1 with a circle around it indicates
that it is a point earned by rally scoring.

6
  • Now the 1st server for SWAT serves and does NOT
earn a point for her team. You put a dash in the
box next to the number 1 with a circle around it
and you then write the number 3 with a circle
around it next to the 2nd server of team
    Sweethearts, player 7.
  • Player 7 serves and earns a point. You write
the number 4 next to the circled number 3 on her
    line.
  • Player 7 serves again and does NOT earn a point
for her team. You put a dash next to the number
4 and then write the number 2 with a circle
around it next to player 4, the second served,
    on team SWAT.
  • SWAT player 4 serves and does not earn a point
for her team. You put a dash next to the circled
number 2 and then write the number 5 with a
circle around it next to Sweethearts player 1,
    their 3rd server.
  • Sweethearts player 1 serves and earns a point
for her team. You write the number 6 next to the
    circled number 5.
  • Sweethearts player 1 serves again and does NOT
earn a point for her team. You put a dash next
    to the number six.

7
  • You just put a dash next to the number 6 on the
    line of Sweethearts player 1.
  • Now enter the number 3 with a circle around it
next to SWAT player 1, their 3rd server.
  • SWAT player 1 serves and does NOT earn a point
for her team. You enter a dash next the circled
    number 3 you just entered.
  • Enter the number 7 with a circle around it next
to Sweethearts player 6, their 4th server.
  • Sweethearts player 6 serves twice and earns two
points for her team. You enter number 8 and
number 9 next the circled number 7 just as youve
    been doing.
  • Sweethearts player 6 does NOT earn a point on
her third serve attempt. You enter a dash next
    to the number 9.
  • You enter the number 4 with a circle around it
    next the SWAT player 3.
  • SWAT player 3 serves and does NOT earn a point.
You enter a dash next to the circled number 4.
  • You then enter the number 10 with a circle around
it next to Sweethearts player 3.
  • Sweethearts player 3 serves and does NOT earn a
point. You enter a dash next to the circled
    number 10.

8
  • You just entered a dash next to the circled
number 10 of Sweetheart player 3.
  • Enter the number 5 with a circle around it next
    to SWAT player 5.
  • SWAT player 5 serves and does NOT earn a point
for her team. You put a dash next to the circled
    number 5.
  • You enter the number 11 with a circle around it
    next to Sweetheart player 5.
  • Sweetheart player 5 serves three times and earns
three points for her team. You enter the numbers
12, 13, and 14 next to the circled number 11.
She attempts to serve again and does NOT earn a
point for her team. You put a dash next to the
    number 14.
  • Enter the number 6 with a circle around it next
to SWAT player 8 (at the top of the line-up). I
recommend doing this after the dashes to help you
    from becoming confused.
  • SWAT player 8 serves and does NOT earn a point
for her team. Enter a dash next to the circled
    6.
  • Enter the number 15 with a circle around it next
to Sweethearts player 10 (youre back up to the
1st server). Again, I recommend doing this after
the furthest dashes to help you from becoming
    confused.

9
  • You just entered the number 15 with a circle
around it next to Sweethearts player 10.
  • At this point it looks like the Coach of the
    Sweethearts puts in some SUBS.
  • The players will walk up in front of the 10 ft
line and touch hands. You enter the number of the
player entering the court next to the number of
the player leaving the court. In this case,
player 2 is taking the place of player 10.
  • Sweethearts player 2 (just entered as a SUB for
player 10) serves three times and earns three
points. You enter numbers 16, 17, and 18 next to
    the circled number 15.
  • Sweethearts player 2 serves again and does NOT
earn a point for her team. Enter a dash next to
number 18 and enter the number 7 with a circle
around it next to SWAT player 6.
  • SWAT player 6 serves and earns a point for her
team. Enter the number 8 next to the circled
    number 7.
  • SWAT player 6 serves again and does NOT earn a
point for her team. Put a dash next to the
number 8 and enter number 19 with a circle around
it next to Sweethearts player 7.
  • Sweethearts player 7 serves and does NOT earn a
point for her team. Enter a dash next to the
    circled number 19.

10
  • You just entered a dash next to the circled
number 19 of Sweethearts player 7.
  • Enter the number 9 with a circle around it next
    to SWAT player 4.
  • The SWAT Coach SUBS in player 3 for player 4.
You write the 3 next to player 4.
  • SWAT player 3 serves and does NOT earn a point
    for her team.
  • Enter a dash next to the circled number 9.
  • Write the number 20 with a circle around it on
    Sweetheart player 1s line.
  • Sweethearts Coach SUBS player 8 for player 1.
    Write 8 next to 1.
  • Sweethearts player 8 serves twice and earns two
points. Enter numbers 21 and 22 next to the
    circled number 20.
  • Sweethearts player 8 serves again and does NOT
earn a point. Enter a dash next to number 22.
  • Enter the number 10 with a circle around it on
    SWAT player 1s line.
  • SWAT player 1 serves and does NOT earn a point.
Enter a dash next to the circled number 10.
  • Enter the number 23 with a circle around it on
    Sweethearts player 6s line.
  • Were almost done, I promise!

11
  • You just entered the number 23 with a circle
around it on Sweethearts player 6s line.
  • Sweethearts Coach SUBS player 11 for player 6.
    Write 11 next to 6.
  • Sweethearts player 11 serves and earns a point.
Enter number 24 next to the circled number 23.
  • The SWAT Coach calls a time-out. Circle the
number 1 next to Time Outs under the SWAT team
    name.
  • Players go back to their positions on the court.
  • Sweethearts player 11 serves again and earns
another point. Enter number 25 next to number
    24.
  • 25 is the magic number when a team has a
    two-point lead.
  • The game is over.
  • Write the final score on the blank line next to
each teams name. I like to underline the final
score on the sheet just to make it easier for the
people entering the information on the website to
    read.

12
  • Teams change sides.
  • Coaches give you new line-ups and you enter the
    information for each team.
  • Sweethearts served 1st in the first game, so SWAT
serves 1st in the second game. (If a third game
is needed, another coin toss will determine who
serves 1st this is another difference between
    the leagues.)

13
  • SWAT player 6 serves three times and earns three
    points. 1, 2, 3. Missed the fourth serve. -
    next to 3.
  • Number 1 with a circle around it next to
Sweetheart player 7 (remember they rotate before
    their first serve).
  • Sweetheart player 7 does NOT earn a point. -
next to the circled number 1.
  • Number 4 with a circle around it next to SWAT
    player 4.
  • SWAT player 4 does NOT earn a point. - next to
    circled number 4.
  • And so on and so on . . .
  • Enter SUBS as they happen.
  • Circle Time Outs as they are called.

14
  • Ive included the final two games for you to
review. Notice the third game the 1st server
    for SWAT, player 6 . . . just as the 3rd-6th Rec
leagues are only allowed to earn 3 points while
serving, 6th Comp-8th Comp are only allowed to
    earn 5 points while serving.
  • You do NOT count the Rally Point as one of the 5
possible points that can be earned. Once a
player has successfully earned 5 points, the
service goes to the other team but NO Rally Point
is awarded. See Sweethearts player 7. No Rally
    Point was entered.
  • When youre all done, look at the score sheet and
finish any of the little things you may have
    forgotten.
  • Sign the score sheet and put it in the folder on
    the table.
