Bookmobiles
Bookmobiles started running on November 9, 1961.
They would run every two weeks to places that
didnt have a library.

Fayetteville Public Library
Fayetteville Public Library was established in
1959 as a Raleigh-Fayette County Library. It was
established as a Fayette County Library in 1961.
It was the first and only Fayette County Library
after the separation. Fayetteville Public
Library was the first headquarters. Laura
Hopkins donated some money to establish the
library.

Oak Hill Public Library
The Oak Hill library was established in 1968. It
is located in the Herbert E. Jones Library which
was originally built by Mr. Jones as a private
library for the Rev. C. Shirley Donnelly.

Mount Hope Public Library
The Mount Hope Library started out as a
storefront library. Mount Hope Public Library
was established in 1979. The library was built
on land donated by the Board of Education.

Ansted Public Library
Ansted Public Library was established in 1976.
The property that the library is built on was
donated by the Manions. The library is often
referred to as the Manion Branch. When the
library was first opened there was 4,000 books
and today there is about 10,000.

Montgomery Public Library
A Book Drop was established in Montgomery in 1972
by the Womens Club. Montgomery Public Library
was not established until 1977. It is also known
as the Barbara Carson Memorial Library in honor
of Barbara Carson who died in 1983. She was the
first paid librarian and the president of the
Womens Club.

New Montgomery Public Library
The Montgomery Public Library was moved from the
basement of City Hall to an old home in
1998. Current library

Gauley Bridge Public Library
Gauley Bridge Public Library was established in
1983. It is in a small building built by the
town.

Meadow Bridge Public Library
Meadow Bridge Public Library was established in
1985. The library was opened up in a trailer
that the town owned. An organization called
Friends of the Library donated money to build
an extra room onto the building.

Headquarters
Headquarters is located in Oak Hill. It was
moved from Fayetteville to Oak Hill in 1979.
This building was originally built to keep the
county bookmobiles in.
