• Summarizing using your own words not borrowing
  phrases from author. No citation needed.
• Paraphrasing using your own words and the
  authors words in combination. Needs citation.
• Quoting needs citation in all cases.
• Plagiarism not giving credit to someone for
  something they wrote. Serious academic offense.
• Review section R5 and R6 in AWR (page 82).

Which Ones Need to be Cited?

• The Titanic was a part of the White Star Line.
• Captain E.J. Smith was the captain.
• Captain E.J. Smith was an excellent, steadfast
  captain.
• Class hatred permeated the ship.
• The ship was built in Belfast, Ireland.

Citation, or No Citation?

• The Titanic was the most luxurious ship of all
  time.
• The Titanic was almost 900 feet long.
• Many people knew that the ship was unsinkable.
• The rivets had too much slag and thus could be
  easily cracked.
• Many gentlemen were valiant in their efforts to
  save others.
