Oxfams Identity
  • Oxfam works internationally as part of a world
wide movement to build a just and safer world.
  • Oxfam is an independent British organisation,
registered as a charity, affiliated to Oxfam
    international, with partners, volunteers,
supporters and staff of many nationalities
  • Oxfam is accountable both to those who support it
and to those whom it seeks to benefit by its
    efforts

3

Oxfams Beliefs
  • The basic beliefs that Oxfam hold are that
everyone is entitled to a life of dignity and
opportunity and they work with poor communities,
    local partner organisations, volunteers, and
supporters to make this a reality. Oxfam's goal
is a world where every person is
  • Safe
  • Secure
  • Skilled
  • Equal
  • Healthy
  • Heard

Oxfam believes That...
  • Poverty is a denial of the basic rights to which
    every human being is entitled
  • Poverty of different kinds, and needs to be
understood in its entirety, rather than in part
  • Poverty makes people more vulnerable to conflict
    and disasters.
  • Poverty is avoidable. Their purpose is to
overcome its causes, not simply to alleviate its
    symptoms.

6

The Objectives
  • People living in poverty will achieve food and
    income security
  • People living in poverty will have access to
secure paid employment, labour rights, and
    improved working conditions
  • People living in poverty will achieve tangible
improvements in their health, through increased
access to basic health services, clean water, and
    sanitation.
  • All children living in poverty will achieve their
right to a good quality basic education, and poor
adults will have access to sufficient educational
opportunities to help overcome their poverty.

7
  • Fewer people die, fall sick, and suffer
deprivation as a result of armed conflict or
    natural disasters.
  • Fewer people will suffer personal or communal
violence, forced displacement, or armed conflict.
  • All people will have an effective voice in
influencing decisions affecting their lives, will
achieve their civil and political rights, and
will enjoy equal status with others.
  • Women and men will enjoy equal rights
  • Ethnic, cultural, and other groups oppressed or
marginalised by reasons of their identity will
enjoy equal rights and status with other people

8

Long- term Objectives
  • The long term objectives that Oxfam hold, are
aims that will make a specific contribution as
part of the broader global movement against
poverty and injustice. They are objectives which
will guide the work of the whole organisation.

9
  • The lives of all human beings are of equal value
  • In a world rich in resources, poverty is an
    injustice which must be overcome.
  • Poverty makes people more vulnerable to conflict
and natural calamity much of this suffering can
be prevented, and must be relieved
  • Peoples vulnerability to poverty and suffering is
increased by unequal power relations based on,
for example, gender, race, class, caste and
    disability. Women are especially disadvantaged.

10

Oxfams Aims
  • Oxfams vision of a world where there is no
longer poverty and suffering. They want to help
ensure that every individual is assured of
  • A sustainable livelihood (the means to earn a
    reasonable living over many years)
  • Education and health (access to basic services)
  • A right to be heard (by those who make the
    decisions that affect their lives)
  • A right to equity (not to be disadvantaged
because of their gender or ethnic identity)

11

What You Can Do To Help
  • By recycling all unwanted items such as foreign
currency, stamps and coins, computers, mobile
phones and even recyclable toner cartridges you
can make a difference to people in need all over
    the world
