Our project and design For our project we will
build a device that will store electrical energy
generated from a solar panel. We will do this by
employing flywheel technology. Electricity from a
solar panel will be used to power a permanent
magnet motor. This motor will turn our flywheel.
Thus, the electrical energy will be converted to
rotational kinetic energy.
3
The flywheel is only as efficient as the motor
and the frictionless of the wheel. Because of
this, we will use an efficient motor for our load
and electrical energy available. To cut down on
energy loss, special low-friction bearings will
be used. After a set time limit the kinetic
energy will be converted back into electrical
energy and used to power a motor as efficiently
as possible and for as long as possible.

Parts details The mass of each weight 22
kilograms The entire assembly will have a radius
of one meter. This will be done to improve the
efficiency of the flywheel. Other parts include
the permanent magnet motor, the bearings, wire,
steel bars, and casing materials.

Efficiency
The total joules available was calculated from
(the energy the panel supplies) x (the
time of operation) The turns per second was
calculated by solving for omega and then dividing
it by two for full revolutions
