Title: Reengineering Italian Forestry Statistics
1Reengineering Italian Forestry Statistics
- Revision of wood categories and aggregates for
statistical purposes

2 Scenario
- New wood process techniques and technologies
- New Rules and Regulations (EU)
- Needs of new statistical wood aggregates
conforming with national and international
classification and standardisation rules (Uni, EN
etc.) - Needs of quantitative standards for wood
aggregates in statistic surveys - Data supplying of the JFSQ
3Surveys to be reengineered
- Survey on wood removals from forest area
- Survey on wood removals from other wooded area
- Survey on prices of wood product aggregates
(prices of wood, free at border of forest)
4Criteria for the new statistical classification
- Quantitative standards for roundwood
- CN-explanatory notes, new sawlogs definitions
adopted by CCC (EU OJ C 256 23/10/02) - Standardisation rules (UNI, EN)
- Uses of wood
5Criteria for the new statistical classification
- uses of wood requiring processing
- when future uses require processing,
classification takes in to account the kind of
process to which wood shall be submitted. Woody
raw materials values and prices can strongly
depend on kind of process
- uses of wood requiring no or minimum processing
- poles, beams for construction, housing etc.
- other wood such as that used for posts, fencing,
pitprops tanning, match blocks etc..
6Criteria for the new statistical classification
- Uni standardisation rules taken as reference
- UNI 3512 - Pine and Larch poles for telephone
lines - common type - UNI 3513 - Pine and Larch poles for telephone
lines - heavy type - UNI 3514 - Cestnut poles for telephone lines -
common type - UNI 3515 - Cestnut poles for telephone lines -
heavy type
7Criteria for the new statistical classification
- New sawlogs definitions adopted by CCC
- Sawlogs are characterised by physical properties
such as - cylindrical and straight-grained without major
bending - a diameter of not less than 15 cm
- sawn lengthways for manufacture of sawnwood,
cross-ties, or used for production of sheets for
veneering (mainly by peeling or slicing).
8Criteria for the new statistical classification
- Quantitative standards for roundwood
- Dimensional standards minimum diameter (cm),
roundwood length (m)
9Industrial processing of roundwood(types of
processes classified by decreasing market value
of raw material - wood)
10Industrial processing of roundwood(types of
processes)
11Industrial processing of roundwood(types of
processes)
12New aggregates of forest products
13New aggregates of forest products
14New aggregates of forest products
15List of units
- Cubic metres under bark (m3) for all wood
removals
- Euro per cubic metres (/m3), for prices of all
wood aggregates
