What is Getting Chipped

• a tiny chip inserted under the skin
• stores critical information
• Very similar to the micro chip used to identify
  lost dogs

The VeriChip

• What is the VeriChip?

• Half the size of a sunflower seed
• Surgically implanted under recipients skin
• Holds critical information about the person with
  the chip

How does the VeriChip work?

• A scanner is used to read an identification
  number unique to the person with whom the chip is
  implanted
• The scanner works by transmitting radio
  frequencies emitted by the chip to a computer
  database
• The database shows all the critical information
  of the person with the chip

What types of information is stored by the
VeriChip?

• Anything that the chip holder would like

• Such as
• Medical info
• Phone number
• Address
• Emergency contacts

How much does the VeriChip Cost?

• 200 of actual chip
• Doctor fee to implant the chip
• 10 per month database maintenance fee

Other positive aspects of the VeriChip

• Will soon be able to access bank account through
  the chip
• Impossible for identity fraud
• Access to buildings
• Instead of a smart card, employees could just
  swipe their bodies

Controversy over the Chip

• How far is too far when trying to keep track of
  someone?
• Is it wrong for parents to Chip their children?
• Is it wrong to make criminals get chipped?
• Will chipping give the government to much control
  over the American population?
• Has been considered an Electronic Leash

Who is getting Chipped?

• So far the VeriChip has been sold in 3 South
  American Countries
• Brazilian politician Antonio de Cunha Lima wants
  to be the first in his country to get chipped

VeriChip in The USA

• So far only one family in the world has
  been implanted with the chip. The family resides
  in Florida and has decided to use the chip for
  safety and medical reasons.
