Investment in technology and RD is only one part
of a broader national system of innovation
Establishing the institutional basis for
innovation through linkages between government,
industry, research and education
Building capabilities in marketing and customer

Developing the capacity of workplaces to engage
in innovation and harness knowledge, skills and
expertise
12Workplace Innovation is about
- Finding new ways of doing old things in the
workplace - the design and adoption of new practices, new
structures, new relationships and ideas in the
development of products and services as well as
operations and processes - Success or otherwise depends on the degree of
commitment to it and the level and quality of
employee involvement - Even if you are an RD business by building a
commitment to workplace innovation youll be more
successful at RD
13National Workplace Strategy
- Is focused on stimulating workplace and change
and innovation - Recognises the critical role of partnership and
participation in improving organisations - High Level Implementation Group
- 42 recommendations
- Recommendation 2 refers to the establishment of a
dedicated fund to build commitment to workplace
innovation
14Towards 2016

- The Government has agreed to establish a three
year workplace Innovation Fund to enable the
parties of this Agreement and the NCPP - .to build a stronger commitment to workplace
innovation by encouraging the development of new
ways of working through partnership, aimed at
increasing flexibility and improving performance.
- In order to maximise the value of the Fund,
support for initiatives will be conditional on
the learning and experience gained being shared
with other organisations and with the policy
community. The NCPP will develop case studies on
the basis of these initiatives as exemplars for
wider discussion. - (P. 86 Section 6.3)

- 6m over three years starting 2007
- support SMEs that are seeking to build
commitment to workplace innovation - encourage and support those who might not realise
the benefits of workplace innovation to engage
with it and the activities that support it - promote the development of the role of
partnership and participation as enablers of
innovation and change and productivity and
service improvement
