Placement Office
  • Situated in Greynore Two, G7 (on ground floor
    behind Sussex Suite Reception)
  • Placement Resources area - next to G7
  • Opening times
  • Term time Mon-Thurs 8.30-2pm
  • Vacation Mon/Weds 10-4pm

What is a Placement?
  • 48 wks of full time supervised employment
  • Can be two 6 month Placements
  • Need formal approval from School

Who can take a Placement when
  • All students can take a Placement
  • International routes - compulsory and must
    include at least 24 wks outside home country
  • Non-International routes - highly recommended
  • After Level One or Level Two
  • FEES ARE APPLICABLE FOR THE PLACEMENT YEAR
  • 500 HOME/EU, 1200 OVERSEAS

Aim of Placement
  • To enable students to consolidate the skills and
    theory learnt in academic studies to appreciate
    industry other organisational standards
    performance

Placement Assessment
  • Placement Portfolio includes
  • 6 learning objectives
  • 3 objectives relate to management modules
  • 3 objectives relate to your field (tourism,
    retail etc)
  • Plus personal learning statement
  • Submitted in October of the year you return to
    University
  • Credits

Placement supervision
  • Allocated supervising tutor
  • Contact at least 3 times PA
  • Possible visit
  • Supervisor helps develop your learning objectives
    with you your work supervisor/ manager

  • Attend ALL Monday sessions for employer
    presentations job vacancies
  • Scan the Placement notice board for jobs
    REGULARLY
  • Be proactive send CV on spec to potential
    companies
  • Give Jan Adams your email address for job opps
  • Industry press
  • Use your own contacts
  • Consult Placement employer folder for ideas

Student responsibilities
  • TO FIND YOUR OWN PLACEMENT with the assistance of
    the Placement Team
  • Use professional clean email address
  • Read the Pre-Placement Handbook
  • Supply Jan with your updated CV
  • Familiarise yourselves with application process
  • Let Jan know if you have received any
    offers/attended interviews
  • Attend ALL Monday briefing sessions
  • Keep ahead of deadlines

Accreditation for Prior Work Experience/learning
(APEL
  • For those students who have been working
    full-time prior to University
  • CriteriaSufficient - minimum 48 wks
  • Recent - within last 5 yrs
  • Authentic - documents
  • Relevant to field of study
  • IMPORTANT
  • Full-time
  • At least 30 hrs per week every week

APEL application
  • Make applications by end week 8 in hand in boxes
  • To attend APEL workshops - times /dates tbc
  • If given go ahead by School, students must
    complete
  • Portfolio examining a management issue of at
    least 3,000 words
  • Reflective statement of at least 1,000 words
  • Pass/Fail basis only
  • If you think you may qualify pls speak to
    Placement Team ASAP
