Why Use DIBELS?
  • - Inexpensive
  • - Quick Screening/Monitoring Tool
  • - Based on the Big 5
  • - Identifies Students Who Need Help Early
  • - Allows Teachers to Monitor Progress Towards
    Literacy Goals

School Responsibilities
- Assess all students in grades K-2 3
times per year. - Provide DIBELS Coordinator
with completed testing booklets including
scoring. - Monitor progress of students who
might need intervention according to the DIBELS
screener.

School Responsibilities
SPED Special Education students with IEPs that
state they should take the Kansas Alternate
Assessment are not required to take
DIBELS. ESOL ESOL students take the English
version of DIBELS. The Spanish version may be
used in addition to the English version for more
information. Newcomers are exempt.
