- Aligning Canadas post-secondary training
programs with the needs of the upstream petroleum
industry - What weve done
- Completed a gap analysis which identified
- Gaps between industrys needs and programming
offered by training institutions - Gaps in current information-sharing mechanisms
between training providers and industry - Produced the National Alignment Strategy and
Recommended Actions report
9Strategy to Align Training Programs with Industry
Needs
- Objective To more closely align Canadas
training programs with the knowledge needs of the
upstream petroleum industry. - A Gap Analysis was conducted to examine supply
and demand issues between industry and training
providers - Identify industry-driven activities that support
the hiring of new entrants - Identify gaps in current communication and
information-sharing mechanisms.
10Areas of Focus
- The gaps to be addressed by the National
Alignment Strategy can be consolidated into four
areas of focus - Image and perception of industry
- Inconsistent communication mechanisms between
industry and training providers - The need for formal partnerships between industry
and training providers - Lack of labour forecasting and skills
requirements information to direct educational
development

Labrador offshore indicates a strong interest in
the region - An increase in East Coast drilling activity will
result in a heightened role of post-secondary
training providers
