• Legon is a suburb of the Ghanaian capital city
  Accra, is situated about twelve kilometres
  north-east of the city center. Legon is home to
  the main campus of the University of Ghana. The
  word Legon is derived from the indigenous Ga
  language of the people of Accra it means "Hill
  of Knowledge"

Host University

• University of Ghana
• The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest
  of the five Ghanaian public universities. It was
  founded in 1948 The university is home to 19 000
  students and is located close to boutiques,
  restaurants, and movie theatres.

Program Overview

• West African Music and Culture
• This program introduces students to West African
  culture, including society, language, politics,
  religion, and history via an intensive
  exploration of the regions expressive arts.
  Students take three U of A courses abroad to earn
  a total of 9

Program Details

• Dates July 6- August 3, 2009
• The first 4 weeks of the program take place on
  the University of Ghana campus and the last two
  weeks are spent in the village of Dagbamente.

Program Details

• Students must take all 3 classes
• Students do not need a background in Music to
  participate in the program, the MUSIC X44 course
  is designed for all students to be registered in
  a course from the 100 level up to the 500 level
  depending on their background.

Credit Transfer Information

• The courses taken during this program are U of A
  courses. Therefore, credit transfer does not
  apply to this program.

Accommodation

• While on campus students stay in the
  International Student Hostel.
• Rooms are shared between 2 students and
  facilities are also shared.
• In the village of Dagbamente, the students will
  stay in a purpose-built dormitory.

• 150.00 CAD - Application fee
• 1586.80 CAD - Tuition
• 618 CAD - Program fee (Village stay)
• 390 CAD- Accommodation
• 280 CAD - Food (approx)

Application Process

• Attend one of the mandatory group advising
  sessions for Summer Abroad in Ghana.
• Submit completed application to Education Abroad
  Program by March 16th, 2008.

Application Requirements

• GPA requirements
• 2.7 current
• 2.5 cumulative
• If you are in the Faculty of Science you must
  have completed 15 of course work at the time of
  application.

• 150 application feecheque or money order only.
