• Standardised assessment tasks
• Must be taken at the end of each Key Stage (Year
  2, 6, 9) legally
• Must be reported to parents at the end of each
  key stage, used for comparisons
• Also optional interim SATs at
• Years 3, 4, 5, 7, 8
• school administered, not statutory.

Both forms of assessment have equal weighting,
and are passed on to the next school.

Proceedures

• Taken week beginning May 12th
• Formal tests, like exams
• Timetable for testing, sealed envelopes, spot
  checks, marked by paid markers
• Results arrive in July
• Results (raw scores and levels) go to secondary
  schools used for setting
• Teacher assessment

Preparation

• During Y5 and Y6, past questions are sometimes
  used as part of normal lessons
• At Year 6, we do practice papers and revision
  lessons, including two mock SATs weeks
• SATs Booster Club

• A film starts at 645pm.
• It lasts 2 hours
• and 35 minutes.

Some children watch salty water being heated.
They measure the change in temperature over 14
minutes.They make a graph of their results. The
graph shows at what temperature their salty water
boiled.

How can I help?

• Early nights, hassle free mornings!
• Please, not lots of past papers
• Revisewise www.bbc.co.uk/revisewise
• Take an interest give them something to write
  about, keep mental skills sharp
• Try not to stress and worry yourself its
  infectious!
• Be positive

The week before

• Studies show that water is important for thinking
  therefore please allow your child to bring in
  their water bottle.
• Bananas are also good apparently, but any
  additional snacks will probably help them relax.
  One lucky mascot/toy can also be brought in, but
  should be inspiring rather than distracting!
• In most of the tests children will need to use a
  pen, so if your child has a special ink pen
  please remind them to bring it along. Are spare
  cartridges needed?
• A good restful weekend will now be the best
  preparation for the tests next week.
• During the SATS week your child will obviously
  need early nights and to eat well so that they
  are able to do their best.
• They have been under lots of pressure but we are
  sure that with encouragement they will gain a
  sense of achievement from the week.
