What is a Region?

• A region is an area with common features that set
  it apart from other areas.
• There are many regions all over the world!

• Environment
• History
• Culture
• These make each region unique!

The Southeast

• Mississippi River-trade transportation
• Agriculture-farmers grow lots of crops

• Warm climate- brings lots of tourists
• Industry- coal, banking, paper

The Northeast

• Mountain Ranges-Appalachian, Catskill,
  Allegheny
• Climate- Hot summers and cold Winters
• Business- Dairy, fishing, forests

The Middle West

• Great Plains Good for farming
• Great Lakes- Largest body of water in the world
• Mining- Iron steel
• Automobile Industry
• Skyscrapers

The Southwest

• Colorado River- white water rafting
• Oil- large growth in the Southwest

• Dry farming- use only rain water
• Rocky Mountains
• The Grand Canyon- 5 million visitors a year

The West

• Death Valley- Lowest elevation in the country
• Sierra Nevada Mountains

• Resources- fuel, rivers, forests
• Volcanoes- Formed the islands of Hawaii
