FIG Workshop Objectives
  • Obtain status of technical clustering activities
  • Finalize and approve Evaluation Criteria for
    System Concept
  • Outline the process for choosing and implementing
    the System Concept.

Clustering Status
  • FIG endorsed clustering at the Dec 1998 meeting
  • Regular informational updates on clusters
    gathered at telecons and via email list
  • Discussions with the Appropriations Committee
    about Cluster proposal funding
  • Clusters were encouraged to submit any clustering
    proposals to the Appropriations committee
  • Cluster members have asked for more information
    about the formal appropriations process
  • Cluster descriptions written by clusters and put
    on the FIG website

Federation System Concept
  • Discussed the need for a federation wide system
    concept.
  • Tiger team (6 people) established to generate
    catalog system evaluation criteria
  • FIG updated at monthly telecons and via email.
  • Draft Catalog Evaluation Criteria published on
    FIG website 2 weeks before FIG meeting.

Catalog SWIL Approach
  • ESIPs or others submit candidate system
    descriptions for SWIL to the FIG by mid June
    1999.
  • in response to FIG SWIL evaluation criteria
  • FIG establishes Tiger Team to evaluate and
    recommend a SWIL system to FIG.
  • Tiger Team completes work by July 1999.
  • FIG holds a workshop in August 1999 to review
    Tiger Team recommendation and endorses a
    system(s).
  • Involved parties generate a formal proposal for
    implementation of SWIL.
  • FIG forwards endorsement of proposal to
    appropriations committee in August 1999 for early
    FY2000 funds.
