2
Topics
  • Introduction
  • Demo
  • Working of the Software

3
History
  • According to WHO, 37 million people are blind
    throughout the world
  • We would like to aid this population with the use
    of Modern Technology.

4
Old Ways
  • The blind mostly rely on
  • Sighted Guides
  • Guide Dogs
  • Drawback Dependence

5
Modern Ways
  • Electronic Travel Aid (ETA)
  • Drawback limited range
  • GPS (Trekker by the Sendero Group)
  • Drawback Outdoor use only
  • Other Methods
  • RFID
  • Ultrasonic
  • Expensive to implement

6
Our Goal
  • Our goal is to help a visually impaired person
navigate in and get acquainted to their
surroundings as a sighted person would giving
    them independence through self reliance.

7
Assumptions
  • Client cannot see but can hear
  • Precision problem
  • Failure to detect moving objects
  • Map updated according to real situation
  • Ability to use the device after short training
  • Client has to move by himself

8
User Input/Output
  • Text to Speech
  • Speech to Text

9
Hardware
  • RFIDs
  • GPS
  • Ultrasonic

10
Maintenance
  • Comments
  • Time Stamping
  • Functions

How it works GPS?
13
Routers
  • A set of wireless routers are used to realize a
positioning system, like that of GPS
    Triangulation.

14
Routers
  • -Placed asymmetrically all over the building,
    covering entire floor.
  • -At any location, the receiver must detect at
    least 3 routers.
  • -Using router strengths, calculations can be made
to locate user position based on MAC addresses.
  • -MAC addresses map to XYZ
  • coordinates of the floor-plan/map.

15
Core Functionalities

17
Database
  • The Router Information table will contain the
    following columns
  • macAddress is the primary key
  • roomNo is the foreign key
  • hardwareID is the secondary key

18
Database
  • The Building Information table will look like the
    following
  • roomNo is the primary key

19
Database
  • The Room Information table will look like the
    following
  • objectNo is the primary key

20
Database
  • The Event Information table will store all the
    events that have happened
  • eventNo is the primary key

21
Database
  • Finally we have the user table that will store
    all the users
  • userID is the primary key.
