Ekklesiato call out of Church is a group of
people bound together by the same calling.
5Consuming Fire 2 of 4
How much does the Church and our relationship
with it matter relative to the other priorities
we have embraced?
6Consuming Fire 2 of 4
We find our deepest and closest intimacy with
Jesus when we fully embrace life as his Bride as
members of his Body.
7Consuming Fire 2 of 4
13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea
Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people
say the Son of Man is?" Â 14They replied, "Some
say John the Baptist others say Elijah and
still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you
say I am?" Â 16Simon Peter answered, "You are the
Christ, the Son of the living God.

17Jesus replied, 18And I tell you that you
are Peter, and on this rock I will build my
church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome
it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of
heaven whatever you bind on earth will be bound
in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will
be loosed in heaven." 20Then he warned his
disciples not to tell anyone that he was the
Christ. - Matthew 16

17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the
church and if he refuses to listen even to the
church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax
collector. Â 19Again, I tell you that if two of
you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it
will be done for you by my Father in heaven.
20For where two or three come together in my
name, there am I with them. - Matthew

10Consuming Fire 2 of 4
16 For we are the temple of the living God. As
God has said "I will live with them and walk
among them, and I will be their God, and they
will be my people." Â 17"Therefore come out from
them       and be separate, says the Lord.
18"I will be a Father to you,       and you
will be my sons and daughters, says the
Lord Almighty." - 2 Corinthians 6
11Consuming Fire 2 of 4
9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that
you may declare the praises of him who called you
out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once
you were not a people, but now you are the people
of God once you had not received mercy, but now
you have received mercy. - 1 Peter 2
12Consuming Fire 2 of 4
27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of
you is a part of it. - 1 Corinthians 12
13Consuming Fire 2 of 4
22And God placed all things under his feet and
appointed him to be head over everything for the
church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him
who fills everything in every way. -
Ephesians 1
14Consuming Fire 2 of 4
15He is the image of the invisible God, the
firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all
things were created things in heaven and on
earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
powers or rulers or authorities all things were
created by him and for him. 17He is before all
things, and in him all things hold together.
15Consuming Fire 2 of 4
18And he is the head of the body, the church he
is the beginning and the firstborn from among the
dead, so that in everything he might have the
supremacy. 19For God was pleased to have all his
fullness dwell in him, 20and through him to
reconcile to himself all things, whether things
on earth or things in heaven, by making peace
through his blood, shed on the cross. -
Colossians 1

19Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and
aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and
members of God's household, 20built on the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, with
Christ Jesus himself as the chief
cornerstone. - Ephesians 2

42They devoted themselves to the apostles'
teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking
of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled
with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs
were done by the apostles. 44All the believers
were together and had everything in common.
45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave
to anyone as he had need.
18Consuming Fire 2 of 4
46Every day they continued to meet together in
the temple courts. They broke bread in their
homes and ate together with glad and sincere
hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of
all the people. And the Lord added to their
number daily those who were being saved.
- Acts 2
19Consuming Fire 2 of 4
32All the believers were one in heart and mind.
No one claimed that any of his possessions was
his own, but they shared everything they had.
33With great power the apostles continued to
testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus,
and much grace was upon them all.
20Consuming Fire 2 of 4
34There were no needy persons among them. For
from time to time those who owned lands or houses
sold them, brought the money from the sales 35and
put it at the apostles' feet, and it was
distributed to anyone as he had need.
- Acts 4
21Consuming Fire 2 of 4
In Jesus we meet not a presentation of basic
ideas about God, world, and humanity, but an
invitation to join up, to become part of a
movement, a people. By the very act of our modern
theological attempts at translation, we have
unconsciously distorted the gospel and
transformed it into something it never claimed to
beideas abstracted from Jesus, rather than Jesus
with his people. - Stanley Hauerwas and Will

We derive our identity, meaning, loyalty, and
mission from Jesus and his Church alone.
23Consuming Fire 2 of 4
We derive our identity, meaning, loyalty, and
mission from Jesus and his Church alone. 26From
one man he made every nation of men, that they
should inhabit the whole earth and he determined
the times set for them and the exact places where
they should live. 27God did this so that men
would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and
find him, though he is not far from each one of
us. 28'For in him we live and move and have our
being.' - Acts 17
24Consuming Fire 2 of 4
We submit everything in our lives to be
transformed removed, changed, renewed in
light of the reality that we are the people who
are with Jesus.
25Consuming Fire 2 of 4
We submit everything in our lives to be
transformed removed, changed, renewed in
light of the reality that we are the people who
are with Jesus. 1Therefore, I urge you,
brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to
Godthis is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do
not conform any longer to the pattern of this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God's will ishis good, pleasing and perfect
will. - Romans 121-2

We embrace the life of a colony a group of
people living by one paradigm in the midst of all
kinds of other paradigms local, national, and
global and of passing that on to our children.
27Consuming Fire 2 of 4
We embrace the life of a colony a group of
people living by one paradigm in the midst of all
kinds of other paradigms local, national, and
global and of passing that on to our
children. Only take care, and keep your soul
diligently, lest you forget the things that your
eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your
heart all the days of your life. Make them known
to your children and your childrens
children. - Deuteronomy 49
28Consuming Fire 2 of 4
We pray for and anticipate the power of the
Spirit working through us to make us a prophetic
colony.
29Consuming Fire 2 of 4
We pray for and anticipate the power of the
Spirit working through us as the Church to make
us a prophetic colony. Â 3 He said "Son of man,
I am sending you to the Israelites, to a
rebellious nation that has rebelled against me
they and their fathers have been in revolt
against me to this very day. 4 The people to whom
I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say
to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says.'
5 And whether they listen or fail to listenfor
they are a rebellious housethey will know that a
prophet has been among them - Ezekiel 2
