What is an I-9?
  • 1986 - Immigration Reform and Control Act
  • Requires employers to only hire persons who may
    legally work in the U.S.
  • In order to comply, BYU must verify the identity
    and employment eligibility of each person hired.
    This is done by completing and retaining an I-9
    for each employee before they begin work
    (including U.S. citizens).
  • An I-9 should be completed for all persons hired
    after November 6, 1986.
