Stem cell Research
By Cheryl Oxford Caitlin Rose
2
What are stem cells?
  • Stem cells
  • un specialized cells
  • The two main types are adult and embryonic
  • Act as a repair system for the body

3
Types of Stem cells
  • Embryonic It can produce all types of tissues.
With this type of Stem cell you can harvest the
cells from an embryo in the blastocyst stage.
  • Adult Theses are found through out the body and
used to repair or replace damaged or dead cells.

4
Discovery of Stem cells
  • They have existed since life began.
  • Have only been extensively been studied since the
    1980s.
  • With more time and research, scientists believe
stem cells could cure debilitating diseases, that
as of right now are terminal.

5
Benefits of Stem cell Research
  • They have the potential to cure and prevent
    different types of diseases.
  • Stem cells can be used to repair certain tissues
    or grow organs.
  • New drugs can be tested on Stem cells, instead of
    using animals.

6
Ethical Issues with Stem cell Research
  • The study of Stem cells has the potential to
cure terminal diseases, but in the case of
embryonic stem cell research, it is can be viewed
as creating life with the sole purpose to alter
    and destroy it.

7
Personal View
  • Understanding both positive and negative sides of
    stem cell research
  • Overall we believe stem cell research is a
    positive thing because

8
Future
  • Stem cell research is a field of science than is
    constantly and rapidly changing through
discovery. Stem cell research is about the
future meaning scientists are always discovery
new information that can be used in health care.
