Title: NSTX BL2 Upgrade: Management Activities
1NSTX BL2 Upgrade Management Activities
- CDR Requirements Outline generated with
assignments. - Job numbers opened for major elements of NBI
upgrade. - Initial Work Planning Forms submitted and
approved. - Some Engineering resources (Cog Engineers
designers) identified and assigned work,
including the BL Services and Cryogenics
Mechanical Engineer from original BL Upgrade. - More to go to cover all of the major elements.
- Comprehensive NBI Upgrade Task List generated.
- A General Arrangement drawing update of the NSTX
Test Cell has been requested for use with NBI BL2
Upgrade requirements. - The Head of PPPL Hoisting and Rigging has been
requested to evaluate best methods for the NBI
Beamline Relocation effort to move the
refurbished BL from the NBI Test Cell to the NSTX
Test Cell and install it on its support stand. - Resources and scope identified and costs
estimated for FY09 effort to arrive at CDR by
11/09. - Design work and Decon effort on track so far for
CDR in November.

2NSTX BL2 Upgrade Power Systems Controls
- Power systems from TFTR BL4 A,B, C have been
chosen for NSTX NBI Upgrade BL2 due to their
proximity to existing systems and controls
already in use. - Evaluation of the routing of cables and trays has
begun with some very promising options already
discovered. (Existing routing though the MER
looks complicated and expensive so better routes
are being sought.) - Evaluation of the removals of N4 High Voltage
Enclosures from the TCB has begun. This work will
be slated for an NSTX outage when active water
lines can be shut off. - Power and Controls Engineering assignments have
been made and detailed estimates started. - Preliminary contacts with vendors of the high
voltage triax and connectors indicate that these
components are available for purchase.

3NSTX BL2 Upgrade NBI Decon Activities
- Initial BL Tritium surveys characterizing BL
completed. Ongoing surveys will be performed
periodically to assess progress. - Airborne and smearable contamination is
reasonable and as expected - External smears completed to allow work.
- NBI Test Cell access has been reviewed and
restricted for Decon effort. - Three procedures have been completed for removals
and pumpout. - All three transmission lines have been removed
and lowered to TCB for storage. - Lid Stand engineering sketches have been started
to fabricate a new stand. - Pumpout of the BL to the stack with air vent of
the beamline to begin air exchanges is imminent
and may start as soon as next week
